Although this walk starts very steeply out of the village of Shoreham (Kent) it is well worth the views. Park in the free car park at the southern end of Filston Lane. Today we walked the 7 mile circular route found in the book Kent Walks (route guides) or drawn up yourself on OS Explorer Map 147 (Sevenoaks). The route crosses farmland, takes you through beautiful shaded woodland, Lullingstone golf course and the last leg follows part of the Darent river (my favourite bit). Two thirds into your walk, at the point where you pass Eagle Heights (bird of prey centre), head towards the viaduct in Eynsford to enjoy the pubs (adds an extra mile or so though). We went to the Plough but it's certainly not rambler friendly: fine if you want pan-fried scallops. Instead the Malt Shovel provided adequate sandwiches which were well received. Alternatively (which perhaps we should have done) you could head to the tea shop at the Roman Villa.
Overall a very pleasant walk with a few inclines; would be fine on any day but particularly beautiful on this surprisingly hot May day.
